Academics
The academic sessions at Summer Honors introduce participants to collegiate level coursework and majors, helping to prepare them for the college experience and identify programs of study. "We do our best not to replicate any high school curriculum," Sinn said. "But we keep the academics level appropriate, and we always get some of the top teaching faculty at NGCSU to host the sessions."

A third of the academic sessions are dedicated to classroom Leadership discussions. The academics offerings page describes sessions like Gross Anatomy, Astronomy trips to the Observatory and Planetarium, Gloabalism, Political Leadership, Psychology, Marine Biology, Ecology and Education Law.
"The mingling of leadership and academics is perfect," Sinn said. "Donna Gessell teaches Writing About Leadership. Each year she's a grader for Advanced Plancement essays, and she challenges participants to write college level papers. She uses their leadership experiences and discussions about leadership themes in the novel Ender's Game to frame their essays. Then she grades the essays using AP style, helping them understand how to write for those tests."
The adventure learning leadership activities at Pine Valley are challenging and fun. Teams are scored not only on leadership, teamwork and communication but also on problem solving, creativity and flexible thinking. Camp Olympics has three field events filled with physcial challenges and two brain teaser events to test logical thinking. Each segment of Summer Honors challenges the mind and helps develop leadership traits.

"I loved the camp. It was great. We put skills that we did not know we had to the test. It was a great leadership course and a very friendly learning environment."
