The North Georgia Summer Honors Program was the joint creation of the North Georgia Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) and North Georgia College & State University nearly 20 years ago. While any teenager who meets the program requirements is elligible to participate, some of the school districts in the North Georgia RESA pay the camp tuition on behalf of certain students. Participating school districts include Cherokee County, Fannin County, Murray County, Pickens County, and Whitfield County schools.

For 2006, Summer Honors was supported by a President's Initiative Fund grant provided by Dr. David Potter, president of NGCSU, through the North Georgia Foundation. The grant totalled $9,500 and supported the creation and implementation of the leadership curriculum and camp tuition scholarships for minority and low income participants. Leadership funds are available for further updates and improvements in the 2007 leadership curriculum, but scholarship assistance to participate is not currently available for 2007.
Summer Honors is in the process of updating the primary contacts for participating schools and systems. For 2006, participating school systems were Cherokee County, Pickens County, Murray County, Pickens County and Fanning County schools. Check back soon for an updated list of guidance counselors who will be evaluating Summer Honors participants from their schools for 2007.

"It made me better prepared for college. I’m not as scared to leave my comfort zone and try new things. I loved it here. I made friends that will last a lifetime."
